United Nations General Assembly the Fourth Committee: The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (SPECPOL) is one of the most significant and fundamental committees since it is one of the six General Assembly Committee of the United Nations. SPECPOL considers a broad range of issues, therefore it was created in order to deal with issues mainly related to decolonization, matters regarding atomic energy, questions related to information, peacekeeping actions, malpractice and lawlessness, outer space and non-self- governing territories.

Even though the Committee shares the same procedures and the structure with the other General Assembly committees, SPECPOL does not have the authorization to make a legally binding decision. This also means that any peacekeeping operations or punitive measures cannot directly be authorized by this committee, still, it is within the committee’s power to suggest or recommend. Although its resolutions aren’t binding, the committee still plays an influential role in the international sphere, as the opinions and views of the committees are always representatives of the majority of countries.

In this session of Şahinkaya Training, as the members of this committee, delegates will face one of the most challenging and rooting problems in the world regarding unlawful political activities and all of them are expected to tackle the problems in a comprehensive way and be the solution the world’s people desperately want.
